It’s had a surge in popularity recently due to the release of Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland, a mixture of live action and 3D elements. The Queen of Hearts is a bit smaller in this film, but makes up for it with a rather large head.
The Queen of Hearts costume comes in many sizes, including child, adult and plus sizes. The girl’s costume is a cute little red dress with white print down the front, black sleeves with puffed-up shoulder pads. Most will come with a heart-shaped purse, a wand and crown. If they do not come with these, they are relatively inexpensive and a must have.
The women’s versions come in various styles, from conservative Disney-like dresses, to more seductive dresses one might see at an exotic costume party. The less revealing dresses are standard flared, red dresses, with a white strip down the middle, lined vertically with three red hearts. There is usually a black and white checkered pattern bordering the white strip, working its way up vest and the sleeves are black, with big puffy shoulders. There is a large white collar and black choker to wear around the neck, and a crown to sit atop your head.
Other costumes for adults include a plain outfit, with a large Queen of Hearts playing card sewn to the front. It covers the body from the neck to the shoulders, and is slightly wider than the person wearing it. There are sexier versions of course, complete with miniskirts, form fitting tops and stockings. Big bows grace the front, and some may include a pink flamingo croquet mallet.
So if you’ve got hearts in your eyes, and red is a color that makes you ready to hit the town, you should really consider the Queen of Hearts costume. It’s unique and you’ll look and feel good wearing it.
